Scholarship Information

Engineering/Machinist/Maintenance Scholarship
2017 Criteria




  1. To provide financial support for university students who are pursuing a degree in engineering and are interested in a career in the wholesale baking industry.
  2. To provide financial support for wholesale baking company employees who are pursuing additional training in maintenance/machine operations at a trade school or vocational institution.


Four scholarships in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded each year.  Scholarships will be allocated by $2,500 per semester and will be revoked if the student discontinues their educational program.  Scholarships can only be used for future tuition.  Scholarship funds will be issued directly to the university or trade/vocational institution.

Conditions of Eligibility

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Must be pursuing a career in wholesale baking or currently employed in the industry.
  • Must have been accepted for admission into a college/university engineering program or a trade school/vocational program.
  • If pursuing an engineering degree, must be a senior in high school, or currently enrolled full-time as a freshman, sophomore or junior.
  • If employed by a wholesale baking company, must be working as a machine operator/maintenance.
  • Must be a student member of ASB.
  • Must commit to attending ASB BakingTech Annual Conference (complimentary registration, transportation and housing).

Application Procedure

  1. Applicants must meet the above criteria.
  2. Applicants must complete the application form.
  3. Engineering students/High School Seniors:
         a. Submit an official school transcript with cumulative grade point average.
         b. Submit a teacher recommendation and another letter of recommendation from a non-
  4. Current baking company employees:  Submit a letter of recommendation from your direct supervisor.
  5. Application and supporting documents must be mailed and post marked by November 31, 2016.

Selection Process

ASB’s Student Task Force will select Scholarship recipients on the basis of academic record, career objectives and leadership qualities.   Selections will be made and recipient notified by December 31, 2016.
